Dear Resident of the Allyn’s Landing Community,
Although there has not been a lot of rain during October, the rain that has fallen is being captured in the lake and the drains will continue to be closed. The lake is not yet at full pond so hopefully with a few more heavy rains that will happen.
The Board has approved a proposal to prune the hedges along the Carriages side of the lake back to the usual 2.5-3 feet level as has been the case in the past. While the lake was empty the shrubs were allowed to grow as the view of the empty lake was partially hidden by the higher shrubs, that no longer needs to be the case. Also, along the edge of the lake near the Carriages the pine trees will begin to be removed by being cut off at the base. Hedge pruning will continue around other sides of the lake after the pond is full, we will then be able to remove the remainder of the pine trees that will not have their roots under water. The trees that will have their roots under water should die naturally.
The need for future landscaping of aquatic plants around the perimeter of the lake that was formerly water but may now not be due to the slightly lower level of the lake will be assessed once the pond is full. We are getting quotes to limb up some of the trees around the lake also. The planting of more trees around the lake and stocking of fish will be considered at the appropriate times.
The fountain has been tested and is working however the pond management company does not want to turn it on at this point because the dead vegetation from under water would be sucked into the fountain and cause it to clog and stop working. We will have it turned on as soon as we are advised that this will not happen.
Thank you for your continuing patience with the restoration of the lake, it is getting better and better with each rain.
On Behalf of the Board of Directors,
Bonnie Giles, CMCA, AMS
